Flames Flashback: World Junior Hockey Championships
A look back at the 2012 World Juniors in Calgary and Edmonton
The 2012 WJC may have come and gone but the memories of the incredible hockey action, amazing fan support and national pride live on.
Many fans in Calgary and Edmonton had the chance to say, “I was there” as this year’s World Junior tournament broke the record for the largest attendance at any World Junior Championship. An impressive 571,539 fans from around the world flocked to the Saddledome and Rexall Place to watch the internationally beloved tournament.
The previous record of 453,282 was set at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. With next year’s IIHF World U20 Championship slated for Ufa, Russia, this year’s tournament that took place in our own backyard was a unique experience for all the players, staff, volunteers and fans involved.
We have taken our favourite World Junior memories and captured them in writing, video and photos.
