Jarome Iginla not only notched the lone goal in the shootout but he also inched closer to a career milestone.
The longtime Flames captain is now just two goals away from hitting 500. He has six points in his last five games and is tied for the team lead in goals scored with linemate Curtis Glencross. The two wingers have 14 goals apiece.
Olli Jokinen's point streak was extended to seven games thanks to an assist on Iginla's third period marker.
The Finn has 10 points in his last seven outings and leads the team with 31 points on the year.
It was a quiet first period in Columbus with neither team finding the back of the net and the combined shot total sitting at 12.
Kiprusoff made one of his finest saves this season during the Blue Jackets second power in the second period.
It looked like Columbus captain Rick Nash had an open net to slam a shot into but Kiprusoff dove across the blue paint to make a blocker save on the sniper.
The Blue Jackets got themselves on the seconds after a Cory Sarich elbowing minor expired. Derrick Brassard sent a shot through a screen, slipping past Kiprusoff at 12:02.
Calgary answered back with a power play goal early in the third stanza. Iginla was able to slide a shot underneath Mason at 3:06 with the assists going to Jokinen and Derek Smith.
