Six Flames prospects in World Junior selection camps
CALGARY, AB -- With the start of world junior training camps just days away, six Calgary Flames prospects prepare to make final impressions for their respective national junior teams.
Michael Ferland (LW-Brandon/WHL) and Max Reinhart (C-Kootenay/WHL) are two of 41 players invited to attend Canada’s National Junior Team selection camp which runs from December 10-14th in Calgary. Ferland is in the WHL’s top ten in scoring with 17 goals and 25 assists in 29 games while Reinhart is 16th in league scoring having netted 16 goals and 20 assists in 27 games.
American’s Bill Arnold (C-Boston College/Hockey East) and John Gaudreau (LW-Boston College/Hockey East) are two of 29 players on Team USA’s preliminary roster which will gather in Camrose, Alberta starting December 17th. Bill Arnold earned Hockey East Player of the Month honors for October while team-mate John Gaudreau earned the league's Rookie of the Month distinction for October.
Calgary Flames 2011 first round draft pick Sven Baertschi (LW-Portland/WHL) has been invited to join Team Switzerland who will hold camp in Red Deer from December 17-23rd. Baertschi is 4th among WHL scoring leaders with 12 goals and a league leading 41 assists in just 23 games.
Flames 2011 second round pick Markus Granlund (C-HIFK Helsinki/SM-liiga) has been invited to join Team Finland and has scored six goals and nine assists in 24 games with HIFK Helsinki in the Finnish Elite League.
The 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship runs from December 26th – January 5th in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.
