Feaster talks trade rumours

CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames general manager Jay Feaster tackled trade rumours on Friday morning, adamantly stating captain Jarome Iginla is staying Calgary and any contrary stories are false.

"Jarome Iginla has not been asked to waive his no-trade, and Jarome Iginla has not demanded a trade or asked for a trade,” Feaster said. "There is no list. There is no smoking gun. There is nobody on the grassy knoll."

Questions about the 34 year-old's future in the organization have become routine over the past few seasons and while Feaster understands it is simply a part of the business, he takes issue with the root of these rumours.

"When it’s a non-story, and we have to stand here and rebut it, the rebuttal becomes the story. It puts us in a position that I don’t know is fair to the organization. I know it is not fair to Jarome.

"One of the questions I have is where do these things start? Are they legitimate sources or is it a blogger in the basement in his underwear that says, ‘This is the rumour du jour,’ and you guys feel the need to come and track it down."

Feaster also broached the subject of a possible trade request from defenceman Cory Sarich, stating he could not comment on the validity of the story. He cautioned not to read too much into his refusal to discuss the rumour.

"Nothing should be inferred by my inability to confirm or deny," he smiled. "I talk to guys all the time in one-on-one things ... Those conversations, what we talk to guys about, is not something I'm comfortable sharing with the media."

Sarich has been a healthy scratch on several occasions this season, playing in 15 games thus far. He has one assist and an even rating through that span.
