CALGARY, AB -- Two late goals from the Columbus Blue Jackets quashed the Flames hopes of winning their third straight game as Calgary fell 4-3 in a shootout.

Nikita Nikitin and Rick Nash scored in the final five minutes of the third period, tying the game at three.

Rick Nash had the lone goal in the shootout, sneaking his shot past through Miikka Kiprusoff's pads.

Blue Jackets netminder Curtis Sanford made 30 saves on the Flames and denied Alex Tanguay, Lee Stempniak and Rene Bourque in the shootout.

The first period featured 15 shots on net by Columbus and just five from Calgary but after twenty minutes of play, the game was knotted up at one.

Columbus opened the scoring when Antoine Vermette was able to sweep a Nikita Nikitin rebound past Kiprusoff. Samuel Pahlsson also assisted on the tally.

Lee Stempniak answered for Calgary at 13:02 when he was able to sneak a shot past Curtis Sanford from just outside the hash marks.

Jay Bouwmeester and Blake Comeau assisted on the tying goal, giving Comeau his first point as a Flame.

The ice shifted in the Flames favour in the second period, with the home team outshooting the Blue Jackets by a 15-3 margin and gaining a one-goal lead.

Rene Bourque netted his seventh of the season when his slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle went top shelf on Sanford at 19:41. Tanguay and Chris Butler had the helpers on the late goal.

Comeau added the Flames third goal of the evening at 5:48 of the third period when he danced around a couple of Blue Jackets and beat Sanford with shot that went low glove side.
