CALGARY, AB -- Just two nights removed from their victory over the NHL-leading Chicago Blackhawks, the Calgary Flames fell to the worst team in the League.

The Columbus Blue Jackets handed the Flames a 4-1 loss on Monday evening, putting the Flames two games under .500.

Henrik Karlsson took over the netminding duties for the night, his fourth start of the season. He stopped 26 shots in his 59:50 of ice time.

Columbus placed Curtis Sanford in net for the third straight game and the goaltender did not disappoint. He made 27 saves and now has an overall record of 2-0-1.

Jeff Carter and Antoine Vermette scored on in the opening ten minutes, prompting the Flames to take a timeout and regroup.

Calgary outshot their hosts after the 30-second stoppage by a 10-2 margin and carried the play for the remainder of the period but couldn't find a way to beat Sanford.

Second period scoring came exclusively from special teams goals.

After TJ Brodie and Alex Tanguay were handed minor penalties within 51 seconds of one another, Carter was able to score his second of the evening.

Mark Giordano answered back for the Flames when he was able to beat Sanford with Marc Method in the sin bin for for holding. He sent a snap shot from right above the faceoff dot, landing his third of the season.

Tanguay earned an assist on the goal, collecting his 700th career point in the process.

The Flames nearly drew themselves within a single goal early in the third period when Tanguay's close-range shot beat Sanford but hit the post. Mikael Backlund had rushed to the side of the net but he couldn't bat in the errant puck into the empty net.

Columbus captain Rick Nash added an empty netter to complete to victory for his team.
