The Flames threw 26 shots at Corey Crawford and were able to generate several quality scoring opportunies thanks to a relentless forecheck.
Lee Stempniak opened the scoring at 5:41 with a goal that will be all over the highlight reels. Alex Tanguay passed him the puck from just inside the Flames zone and Stempniak carried it the rest of the way. He dipped around Duncan Keith and went top shelf with a wrist shot from inside the faceoff circle.
TJ Brodie also earned an assist on the goal, getting his first NHL point.
Chicago answered back just over a minute later when Viktor Stalberg notched his fifth of the season. Jonathan Toews and Nick Leddy garnered the assists.
The Flames were able to capitalize on a couple of defensive lapses early in the second period, pushing the score to 3-1 in a span of 17 seconds.
Rene Bourque notched his sixth of the year at 0:40 when his wrist shot bounced off of Crawford's glove. Curtis Glencross and Scott Hannan picked up the helpers.
Mere seconds later, Roman Horak was able to steal the puck in the corner and snap it out front. Paul Byron was hovering around Crawford and he backhanded the pass over the netminder at 0:57 for his second of the season.
Marian Hossa made it a one-goal affair while Chicago was on the power play but Glencross gave his club a two-goal margin at 11:04. Jay Bouwmeester made an excellent pass from the blueline to get the winger the puck and he deflected it into the back of the net. Olli Jokinen also assisted.
Glencross made it a 5-2 game at 6:46 when he went rushing through the slot, misfired on his initial shot but Crawford dove for intended shot. Glencross skated to the side of the net and calmly deposited the puck behind a sprawling Crawford for his second of the game and seventh of the season.
