DENVER, CO -- It appears the Colorado Avalanche are the answer to the Calgary Flames scoring woes.

With their 4-3 win on Saturday night, the team now has eight straight victories over the Avs. Over the course of that streak, the Flames have scored 31 goals while only allowing 13.

Miikka Kiprusoff's performance was also a key aspect in the Flames win. He made 36 saves and was able to keep his team in as the Avalanche pressed hard to find the equalizer late in the game.

Recently recalled Paul Byron opened the scoring with after a beautiful passing play between himself and Derek Smith. Byron zoomed into the zone, dished the puck off to Smith and cut through the defence in hopes his linemate could get it back to him in time to take a shot. Aware that Avs defenceman Ryan Wilson was lagging behind Byron, Smith threw the puck back and the forward snapped his shot over Seymon Varlamov's glove for his first goal in a Flames jersey.

Jarome Iginla scored his fifth of the season just over three minutes later when he was able to backhand a pass from Alex Tanguay through Varlamov. Jay Bouwmeester also earned an assist on the tally.

The Flames were unable to convert on the power play midway through the period but just as Avs rookie Gabriel Landeskog finished serving his sentence for a hooking minor, Curtis Glencross made the Avs defenders pay for screening their own netminder with his first goal in 11 games.

Lee Stempniak added Calgary's fourth goal of the evening at 9:36 of the second period after a strong individual effort. Battling Jan Hejda behind the net, the winger broke free from the defenceman, swooped in front of the net and backhanded the puck into the net.

The Avalanche got on the scoresheet at 13:16 of the middle stanza when Milan Hejduk's shot from the faceoff circle slipped over Kiprusoff's glove.

Matt Duchene was able to get his club within two just 26 seconds into the final frame. Bouwmeester's turnover in the Flames zone ended up right on Duchene's stick and he beat Kiprusoff blocker side.

Colorado's surge continued later in the period when David Jones was able to deflect a Ryan O'Reilly shot from the blueline.
