From The Morning Skate: Flames vs. Canucks
Notes, quotes & anecdotes from the Flames pre-game skate
"Joni's going to play," said Ward. "We, as an organization, felt that we're about providing opportunities ... sometimes the best thing you can do as a coach and as an organization is put him right back in the fire.
"He wants to respond. The good news is that he is excited about the challenge again ... Joni's a guy in the organization right now that needs to get himself ready for training camp and get himself ready for Abbotsford. He's going to have to carry the weight."
After Sunday afternoon's loss, Ortio stated that while he was disappointed in his play against San Jose, he wasn't going to let that hamper the rest of his time in Penticton.
"Just go through the goals and forget about it. Learn from your mistakes. No good things can come out of worrying about the goals and all that other stuff."
LIVING THE DREAM
The undrafted 18 year-old hadn't heard from any team and . But on the 18th, the Flames called asking if he'd like to join the club on an amateur tryout agreement. Kosterman quickly agreed and now finds himself poised to make his Flames debut tonight against the Canucks.
"I thought that just on the timing that maybe that ship had sailed for this summer, that maybe I wasn't going to get a chance," he admitted. "I'm just really grateful for the opportunity they've given me ... I'm trying to soak up as much of it as possible. It's really fun so far."
The Calgary native grew up a Flames fan and for him, tonight is something of a dream come true.
"It's really cool actually. It tickles you a little bit. Even watching the game yesterday and seeing the guys go out in jerseys was like 'Holy smokes.' To be able to play in the game jerseys and everything, it's really exciting."
Kosterman played his first full season with the Hitmen last year, picking up one goal and seven points through 68 contests. He will be paired with Chris Breen in tonight's game.
