2011 Young Stars: Calgary Flames

CARTER BANCKS

Left wing

Signed as a free agent in 2010

Carter Bancks might not be the biggest player on the ice (5-foot-11, 180 lbs) but you'll know when the winger is on the ice. The 22 year-old plays a hard-as-nails game and does not shy away from dropping the gloves. Bancks also has great offensive upside. Before being suffering a concussion early in the season, he was leading the Heat in points. In 29 contests last season, he had five tallies and 19 points. He signed a two-way deal with the Flames this summer and he's looking to make himself the go-to guy when someone needs to head up to Calgary for a call-up.

PATRICK HOLLAND

Right wing

Drafted in the 7th round (193rd) in 2010
This summer, Patrick Holland was invited to attend Team Canada's development camp for World Junior eligible players and it looks like he's carrying over confidence from that experience over to the Young Stars tournament. The 19 year-old had two goals in the Flames 4-3 OT loss to the Canucks on Monday and will be back on the top line tonight with Sven Baertschi and Max Reinhart. He isn't afraid to play in the dirty areas - both of his tallies came from whacking away at the front of the net - and is strong along the boards. Look for more hard working, determined play from the winger against the Oilers.

LANCE BOUMA

Left wing

Drafted in the 3rd round (78th overall) in 2008

One of four Young Stars players to spend time in the NHL, Lance Bouma brings a veteran presence to the Flames lineup. In addition to the one assist he earned in his 16 games with the Flames last season, Bouma collected 12 goals and 20 points in his 68 tilts in Abbotsford. His gritty style of play helps open space for his linemates and he isn't afraid to crash the net in hopes of picking up a rebound or a deflection. Bouma's also known as an agitator, trying to pressure the other team into making mistakes out of frustration.
