  TORIE PETERSON'S MOCK DRAFT

    RELATED ITEMS:
Onysyk's mock draft | Top ranked prospects

1
Edmonton Oilers
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, C, Red Deer (WHL)
THE DIRT: The most talented player in the draft, the Oilers can't pass up a player whose vision has been compared to Wayne Gretzky.

2
Colorado Avalanche
Adam Larsson, D, Skellefta (SWE)
THE DIRT: Said to be the second coming of Nicklas Lidstrom & ready to jump into the NHL, Larsson will aid the Avs blueline immensely.

3
Florida Panthers
Gabriel Landeskog, LW, Kitchener (OHL)
THE DIRT: A ton of fire power with a physical edge, Landeskog does it all with ease and will likely see himself in an NHL sweater this fall.

4
New Jersey Devils
Jonathan Huberdeau, C, Saint John (QMJHL)
THE DIRT: Incredible offensive upside with hands that have been compared to Patrick Kane's. The Devils could use his offence.

5
New York Islanders
Sean Couturier, C, Drummondville (QMJHL)
THE DIRT: He brings size, skill and vision. The Islanders youthful forward group will get another kid to add into the mix this fall.

6
Ottawa Senators
Dougie Hamilton, D, Niagara (OHL)
THE DIRT: With 12 goals, 58 points and a +35 rating,  the two-way defenceman simply does it all. Ottawa could hit a homerun with him.

7 Winnipeg Ryan Strome, C, Niagara (OHL)
THE DIRT: Fun to watch & incredibly talented (33 g, 106 p last season), Winnipeg will make a splash with their first draft in 16 years.

8
Columbus Blue Jackets
Ryan Murphy, D, Kitchener (OHL)
THE DIRT: Columbus desperately needs to add a skilled blueliner & Murphy fits the bill. Had 26 goals through 63 games.

9
Boston Bruins (via TOR)
Nathan Beaulieu, D, Saint John (QMJHL)
THE DIRT: The Bruins will add long-term stability to their blueline by adding an excellent puck moving defenceman.

10
Minnesota Wild
Mika Zibanejad, C, Djurgarden (SWE)
THE DIRT: A power forward with soft hands and a commitment to defensive responsibility, Wild would be remiss not to nab this pivot.

11
Colorado Avalanche (via STL)
Jonas Brodin, D, Farjestad (SWE)
THE DIRT: Great skater, very composed and can log workhorse minutes. With some development, Brodin could be a top-four d-man.

12
Carolina Hurricanes
Duncan Siemens, D, Saskatoon (WHL)
THE DIRT: The Canes blueline gets a whole lot tougher with the addition of the most physical defenceman in the draft.

13
Calgary Flames
Sven Bartschi, LW, Portland (WHL)
THE DIRT: High-end skills mixed with great vision makes Bartschi a potential top-six forward.

14
Dallas Stars
Mark McNeill, C, Prince Albert (WHL)
THE DIRT: A very versatile power forward with excellent hockey sense. McNeill has been compared to Ryan Getzlaf for his style of play.

15
New York Rangers
Joel Armia, RW, Assat (FIN)
THE DIRT: The youngest player on Assat, Armia held his own against men and was the team's sixth highest scorer.

16
Buffalo Sabres
Zack Phillips, C, Saint John (QMJHL)
THE DIRT: Phillips may not be the prettiest skater but that doesn't stop him from scoring. Had 38 tallies through 67 games.

17
Montreal Canadiens
Nicklas Jensen, RW, Oshawa (OHL)
THE DIRT: Like Michael Grabner, Jensen may need some time to develop but has an overwhelming abundance of raw skill.

18
Chicago Blackhawks
Tomas Jurco, RW, Saint John (QMJHL)
THE DIRT: Unbelievably creative, Jurco would add more flash to Blackhawks forward group.

19
Edmonton Oilers (via LAK)
Jamieson Oleksiak, D, Northeastern (HE)
THE DIRT: Oilers need depth & size on the blueline. Oleksiak, at 6'7 and 244 lbs, adds just that. Physically unparalleled in the 1st round.

20
Phoenix Coyotes
John Gibson, G, USA U-18 (USHL)
THE DIRT: Goaltending is a concern for Phoenix so Gibson will give them a reliable prospect to work into their system.

21
Ottawa Senators (via NSH)
Oscar Klefbom, D, Farjestad (SWE)
THE DIRT: Not only has great vision, size, and hands but a character player as well. Will add a lot to the Sens blueline depth.

22
Anaheim Ducks
Joseph Morrow, D, Portland (WHL)
THE DIRT: This blueliner logged a ton of minutes this year and proved himself capable of being a workhorse. Can put up a ton of points.

23
Pittsburgh Penguins
Brandon Saad, LW, Saginaw (OHL)
THE DIRT: Had a so-so 2010-11 season but has potential to be a steady second liner, posting 60-70 points per year.

24
Detroit Red Wings
Scott Mayfield, D, Youngstown (USHL)
THE DIRT: Lots of talent but needs to work on his hockey sense. Detroit's development system could help him greatly.

25
Toronto Maple Leafs (via PHI)
David Musil, D, Vancouver (WHL)
THE DIRT: Plays GM Brian Burke's preferred style: truculent. Hard-nosed, competitive and very strong.

26
Washington Capitals
Boone Jenner, C, Oshawa (OHL)
THE DIRT: Plays a very dependable, low risk game. Jenner is great a faceoffs and would add some offense to a checking line in the NHL.

27
Tampa Bay Lightning
Mark Scheifele, C, Barrie (OHL)
THE DIRT: Risky pick due to Barrie's woeful year, could be the steal of draft if he's as talented on a good team as he was on a bad one.

28 San Jose Sharks Matt Puempel, LW, Peterborough (OHL)
THE DIRT: Despite having his season cut short thanks to hip surgery, Puempel still managed 34 goals through 55 games this season.

29
Vancouver Canucks
Mario Lucia, LW, Wayzata (USHL)
THE DIRT: A two-way forward, Lucia would aid the Canucks offensive depth. Scored 30 through 27 games at the USHL level.

30
Toronto Maple Leafs (via BOS)
Tyler Biggs, RW, USA U-18 (USHS)
THE DIRT: Gritty, big and surly, Biggs can annoy the opposition to no end. He has the skill to be an consistent offensive threat as well.
