Jamie McLennan opts to move on

CALGARY, AB -- Jamie McLennan's life has changed dramatically in the past couple of months.

After two years as an assistant coach in charge of goaltending, the Calgary Flames opted not to exercise club options on McLennan's contract. The team did offer the 39 year-old another position within the organization, aiding in the development of the club's goaltending prospects.

After much deliberation about the offer, McLennan has chosen to pursue other options.

"The offer to stay was an amazing offer," he told the Calgary Herald. "It took me a long time to mull my life over. They didn't just throw something at me to keep me around. They made me a legitimate, very respectful offer. I respectfully declined."

McLennan was quick to note there was absolutely no hard feelings about the parting of ways.

"I know it's cliche, but I'll always bleed Flames blood. I have such loyalty to the organization. For me, it was personal. I need to take a step back and see where I'm heading with my life. I need to see what's out there."

The former Flames netminder has delved into broadcast work in recent weeks, joining the TSN panel and TSN radio for the second round of the playoffs.
