Flames claim Brett Carson off waivers

PrintCalgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that acquisition of defenseman Brett Carson who was claimed off of waivers from Carolina.
"By claiming Brett off waivers, we believe we have filled our need for depth on our blueline," said Acting General Manager Jay Feaster. "We had been carrying eight defensemen prior to the injury to Adam Pardy and by adding Brett we are strengthened again to eight at that position. We have watched Brett a lot this year. He is a big guy who moves the puck very well."
Carson, a native of Regina, Saskatchewan, is a former Calgary Hitmen having played for them from 2002-06. Originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 4th round (109th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Carson has split the 2010-11 season between the Hurricanes and the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL. He has spent parts of the last three seasons in the NHL accumulating two goals and 10 assists for 12 points and 20 penalty minutes in 72 games.
