The Calgary Flames staged a big, come-from-behind win over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday, winning the Battle of Alberta 5-3.

Alex Tanguay had two goals and one assist in the win while Flames captain Jarome Iginla scored his first of the season and assisted on another.

The Flames dominated the Oilers through most of the game but never took the lead until Iginla, who had a game-high eight shots on net scored on a power play in the third period.

Jarome Iginla scored his first of the season on a power play in the third period when Alex Tanguay tips a perfect pass across the crease to Iginla who is then able to tip the puck into a gaping net and give the Flames a 4-3 lead.

The Flames had outplayed the Oilers in just about every facet of the game but had not held the lead until Iginla's goal, the game-winner, at 7:49.

With the Flames trailing 3-2 Niklas Hagman showed some terric hustle and determination to draw the Flames even with the Oilers in the third period.

Hagman got a shot from the slot which Nikolai Khabibulin stopped. But Hagman fought off the Oiler defender, got his own rebound and scored on the second effort to spark the Flames to victory.

Curtis Glencross was superb on the penalty kill and was a buzzsaw in the Oilers zone, getting to loose pucks and getting to the net and being a general nuisance for goalie Nikolai Khabibulin. Glencross hit a post late in the third which would have sunk the Oilers for good and had eight shots on net.

In fact, the line of Mikael Backlund, Glencross and Tim Jackman did exactly what a third line should do -- provide energy and scoring chances.

Flames head coach Bret Sutter was behind teh bench for his 250th game as a coach Saturday. He spent two seasons with the New Jersey Devils before joining the Flames last season when he led the team to a 40-32-10 record.

Lifetime as a head coach Sutter is 139-90-21

"We had to stick with it. We talked about it between the second and third period. We had to keep creating chances like we were doing and believe that we were going to score. When you outshoot the other team 46-30 you deserve to win.
"We feel good about the way we can play and our ability to put the puck in the net. This was a big win for us." - Flames forward Alex Tanguay.
