Hockey Fights Cancer Night
The Calgary Flames host Hockey Fights Cancer Night Saturday at the \'Dome.
CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Flames Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night will be on Saturday, October 16th when the Flames face off against the Edmonton Oilers.

The Flames will support this NHL initiative with the proceeds of Saturday’s Flames Foundation’s 50-50 raffle sales directed to Hockey Fights Cancer as well as directing a portion of the proceeds from the sales of Hockey Fights Cancer ties, hats and women’s track jackets available in FanAttic stores during October.

Last season’s Flames Foundation’s 50-50 proceeds directed over $14,000 to Hockey Fights Cancer. A pre-game ceremonial puck drop will also take place with a youth participant from the Alberta Children’s Hospital as part of the Flames Awareness Night prior to the game start on October 16th.

In addition to the local cancer organizations supported by NHL teams, the National Hockey League and the NHL Players' Association, the NHL and the NHLPA will distribute more than $475,000 in grants to the following four organizations this season:
  • The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
  • Prostate Cancer Canada (Canadian teams)
  • ZERO - The Project to End Prostate Cancer (U.S. teams)
  • Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
In addition to the above, each of the 30 Member Clubs received a $10,000 charitable grant to be donated to a local cancer research organization of their choice.

The Calgary Flames, through the Flames Foundation for Life, have directed this grant to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta.

Lavender, which represents awareness for all cancers, continues to be the designated color for the initiative and will be worn by the hockey community throughout October.

All NHL players will wear a Hockey Fights Cancer decal on their helmets during games in October.

Hockey Fights Cancer™ is a joint charitable initiative founded in December 1998 by the National Hockey League® and National Hockey League Players’ Association.

It is supported by players, NHL member clubs, NHL alumni, the NHL Officials’ Association, professional hockey athletic trainers and equipment managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America.

The goal of Hockey Fights Cancer™ is to raise money and awareness for national and local organizations involved in cancer care and research.

To date, Hockey Fights Cancer™ has raised more than $11 million.
