Edmonton Oilers host Calgary Flames in season opener
The Flames' annual New Year's Eve home game has Calgary hosting the Colorado Avalanche for a 7:00 pm start at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The Christmas schedule includes home games against Vancouver (December 1st), Tampa Bay (December 7th), Columbus (December 13th), Toronto (December 16th), Minnesota (December 18th) and Buffalo (December 27th). Calgary will face the Edmonton Oilers on New Years Day, Saturday, January 1st at Rexall Place.
Calgary has two five game home stands this season from October 24 – November 3 when they host San Jose, Edmonton, Colorado, Washington and Detroit. The second five game stand is February 16-27 when they host Dallas, Montreal (Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium pending final approval), Boston, San Jose and St. Louis. The Flames longest road trip is a five game trek from November 21-27 when the Flames travel to Detroit, New York Rangers, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
The Flames will travel to the eastern seaboard twice, featuring games in Manhattan, New York (November 22nd), New Jersey (November 24th), Philadelphia (November 26th), Pittsburgh (November 27th), Carolina (January 11th), Ottawa (January 14th), Toronto (January 15th), Montreal (January 17th) and Atlanta (February 3rd).
Calgary will host the Southeast Division, highlighted by games against Florida (October 14th), Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals (October 30th) and Tampa Bay (December 7th). The Northeast Division will travel west to Calgary starting with Toronto (December 16th), Buffalo (December 27th), Ottawa (February 9th), Montreal (February 20th) and Boston (February 23rd). The Flames will also play host to the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks twice (November 19th and February 7th). Hockey Day in Canada is February 12th with the Flames visiting the Vancouver Canucks.
The day-by-day breakdown is as follows: Monday (11), Tuesday (9), Wednesday (15), Thursday (10), Friday (15), Saturday (13) and Sunday (9). Other schedule notables include playing back-to-back 13 times as well as 17 home stints and 17 road trips.
The NHL All-Star Weekend will be hosted by the Carolina Hurricanes and will run January 29-30th at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Flames regular season schedule concludes with a home game against Vancouver on Saturday, April 9th.
The final day of the 2010-11 NHL schedule is Sunday, April 10th with the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs beginning on Wednesday, April 13th and concluding no later than Monday, June 13th.
Under the NHL scheduling matrix, each team plays six games against each team in its division (24 games), four games against the non-division teams within its conference (40 games) plus 18 non-conference games – including at least one game against each club in the other conference (15 games) and three other games against select teams.
All Flames home and away games will be carried live on the FAN 960 radio. The complete television schedule will be released in August.
