So much for the captain getting off to a slow start. Jarome Iginla is on a roll. In fact, it's the best start to a season he has ever put together.

The Calgary Flames captain has tallied 16 points, including six goals, in the first 10 games of the 2007-08 National Hockey League season.

In just about every statistical category, Iginla has set new marks for the start of a season.

His six goals ties a career-high, set last season. His 10 assists is tops for his career, as are the 16 points. His 46 shots on goal, a career high and his plus nine ranking is three better than his previous best. The only category he is lagging in is power play goals -- oddly, he hasn't scored on the man advantage. Yet.

Iginla, now in his 11th NHL season, has had his share of slow starts -- in 1999 he had just three points in his first 10 games.

But that is certainly not the case this season as he is three points better than his previous high of 13 points, in 2001. That season he went on to score a career-high 52 goals and claim the Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy as the league's top scorer and the Art Ross Trophy, as the the league's leading scorer.

At this pace, he would easily surpass the 96 points he had to win the scoring race. His point pace after 10 games puts him in the neighbourhood of 128 points.

The table below shows Iginla's starts for the first 10 games of each of his NHL seasons.
