Ben Hanowski
POSITION: Right Wing
HEIGHT: 6' 2"
BIRTHDATE: 18/10/1990
DRAFTED: PIT: 2009-63 overall
Traded to Calgary by Pittsburgh with Kenny Agostino and Pittsburgh's 1st round choice (Morgan Klimchuk) in 2013 Entry Draft for Jarome Iginla, March 28, 2013.

A hefty spotlight was placed on Ben Hanowski, on March of 2013, after he was announced as one of the prospects the Flames would attain in Jarome Iginla’s trade to Pittsburgh. He backed up the hype with stats as St. Cloud University’s leading scorer, his junior year, and second-leading-scorer the following season (less five games than the top scorer).

Hanowski has been praised for his soft hands with the puck and can stick-work through high-volume traffic. He also plants roots, in front of the net, with an ability to tap in the most precarious pucks. This was confirmed, in 2013, during his first ever NHL game, versus Minnesota, when Hanowski teed-up in the slot and buried the puck to the back of the net.

Hanowski finished up the 2013 season, with the Flames and five NHL games under his belt. Moreover, he developed an understanding of what he needed to do to crack the Flames’ lineup at the following season’s training camp. He set out to gain speed and momentum in the off-season. Upon arrival to Flames development camp, at the beginning of July 2013, he did just that shedding over ten pounds and adding a more explosive start to his skating.
