CALGARY, AB -- A pair of Calgary Flames will face off against each other in the hopes of earning bronze at the 2014 IIHF World Championship.
Sergei Bobrovski of the Columbus Blue Jackets stopped 22 of 23 shots in net to help down Backlund’s Swedes 3-1. Backlund recorded an assist on Sweden’s lone goal but was held without a shot in 21:14 of action in the loss. The 25-year-old was ejected from the game with 11 seconds remaining after being assessed a charging major.
Backlund heads into his matchup with Hudler with four goals and seven seven points in nine games. He also has a plus-1 rating while averaging 17:56 of ice time.
Hudler’s Czech Republic were forced to compete for bronze after being shutout by Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne and Finland 3-0.
In the loss, Hudler finished with an even rating in 12:52 of ice.
He’ll skate against Backlund after earning a goal and three assists in nine contests. Hudler has also averaged 15:05 of action in the tournament.
