CALGARY, AB -- Despite their depleted roster, the Abbotsford Heat were able come back from a 3-1 deficit and force overtime on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately, they were unable to find a way to beat Cristopher Nilstorp in extra time and fell 4-3 to the Texas Stars.
The Stars opened the scoring with a power play marker in the first period but Sven Baertschi responded with a power play goal of his own to tie things up through the opening 20:00.
Texas pulled ahead in the second frame with two goals but the Heat didn't back down. Blair Jones and Brett Olson scored in the third stanza to force over time while Olivier Roy turned aside seven shots in the period.
Cameron Gaunce scored the game-winner at the 2:04 mark in overtime.
Roy made 27 saves on 31 shots in the loss.
