CALGARY, AB -- The Abbotsford Heat pulled within a goal in the third period but their comeback attempt was thwarted by an empty-netter by the Chicago Wolves, icing a 5-3 victory for the home team.
Chicago scored the first two goals of the game, with Adam Cracknell and Alexandre Bolduc beating Olivier Roy. Defenceman Chad Billins was able to close the gap to a single goal before the first period came to close, notching his his ninth marker of the year. Shane O'Brien and Brett Olson picked up the helpers on Billins' tally.
Evan Oberg and Shane Harper extended the Wolves lead to 4-1 in the second period and head coach Troy G. Ward opted to make a goaltending change. Aaron Dell made his AHL debut, coming in at the 11:57 mark of the second stanza.
The Heat came out firing on all cylinders in the third frame and Olson scored just 51 seconds into the period. Heat rookie Tyler Wotherspoon and forward Carter Bancks collected the assists on the Heat's second goal of the night.
The Heat face off against the Wolves on Sunday afternoon, capping off their five-game road swing.
