MAKING HIS FLAMES DEBUT

Brian McGrattan is very doubtful for tonight's game so it appears Lane MacDermid will make his debut in Flames silks. The forward was acquired from the Dallas Stars on Nov. 22.

"Big kid, up and down. Physical player who can finish his checks," head coach Bob Hartley said in his post-practice media address. "Great on forechecks. With Grats injury right now, we felt that we wanted a little size. That's why we called him up."

MacDermid, who was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round (117th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft, is anxious to get his first game with his new team under his belt.

"It's a good young team and I'm hoping to make a bit of an impression with the club," he said. "Do my best and hopefully contribute."

As Hartley noted, MacDermid is known for his physical presence on the ice and using his size to his advantage. He's looking to make good use of that grit and edge tonight.

"Just [bring] energy. Be good defensively. Get my checks in and bring energy on the ice," MacDermid said.

Prior to being recalled by the Flames, MacDermid played in four games with the Abbotsford Heat. The Flames AHL affiliate utilizes the same systems as Hartley and his coaching staff do so the forward was able to gain a decent understanding of how he'll be expected to play in Calgary.

"They have a great coaching staff down there. They taught me a lot," he stated. "I feel comfortable coming in here now."

COLBORNE QUESTIONABLE

Joe Colborne is under the weather and make not be able to play tonight. His status will be decided on at game-time but if he is too sick to play, the Flames will dress seven defencemen tonight.

"Maybe he's going to be in, maybe he [won't] be," Hartley said. "If you see him in warm-up, he has a chance. If he's not there, he's sick."

Derek Smith is a likely candidate to slot in Colborne can't dress for the game.
