CALGARY, AB -- The Abbotsford Heat are in first place in the AHL's Western Conference and that is thanks in large part to the play of their rookie forwards.
Corban Knight, Ben Hanowski and Markus Granlund have been superb for the Heat, putting up big numbers in recent weeks. Knight leads the team in scoring with 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 16 games, Hanowski has 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in 15 games and Granlund, who missed games early in the season with a lower body injury, has posted 6 points in his last 7 games.
The Heat have also received consistent production from their veterans. Paul Byron trails Knight in the scoring race with 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists) in 16 games, Ben Street has 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists) in 9 outings this year and Blair Jones has registered 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in 11 games.
In terms of offence from the blueline, Chad Billins has provided that in spades. He leads the Heat in goals scored with 6 in 12 games and has 8 points to his name thus far. Rookie defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon has also chipped in with 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in his first 15 games in the league.
