CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospect Ryan Culkin has been named captain of his junior team, the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL.

The 19-year-old blueliner is in his fourth season with the Remparts. Culkin put together a career-year in the 2012-13 season, scoring 5 goals and 45 points through 67 games in Quebec.

Culkin recently attended Calgary's rookie camp, the 2013 Young Stars Classic and a portion the Flames main training camp. He suited up for a couple of pre-season games, including the first game in the Scotiabank Saddledome since the flood.

"It was a great experience playing at the Saddledome. I was a little bit intimidated in the beginning but after the first couple of shifts, I got into and I thought I played well," he said of his first NHL pre-season outing.

He had one assist in his two pre-season games, picking up the secondary helper on Emile Poirier's tally against the Oilers on Sept. 14.

The Flames selected the defenceman in the fifth round (124th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
