CALGARY, AB -- On the back of a two-goal outing from Michael Ferland and a strong performance from netminder Joni Ortio, the Calgary Flames prospects downed the University of Calgary Dinos 6-3 on Monday night.

The game, which was held at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canadian Olympic Park, signifies the end of rookie camp for the prospects, with the start of training camp around the corner on Wednesday.

In what turned out to be a penalty-filled affair, the Flames were the first one on the boards in the scoring department.

Defenceman Zach Davies took advantage of the PP, scoring about 16 minutes off a shot from the left corner.

Calgary expanded their lead in the second frame, courtesy of back-to-back markers from Ferland. The former Brandon Wheat King put forth an extremely strong performance in prospect camp, picking up an assist in each of the three games at the Young Stars Classic in Penticton, BC over the weekend.

At the end of 40 minutes, the Dinos had the 21-16 advantage in shots.

Both teams scored a trio of goals in the final frame, with the Flames goals coming from Dylan Smoskowitz, Ben Hanowski and Sven Baertschi.

Walker Wintoneak, Max Ross, and Drydn Dow all put up single markers for the Dinos.

The Flames scored four goals on eight power play opportunities, while successfully killing off five of six penalties.

Ortio turned away 23 shots in the game for the victory, while Jacob DeSerres and Kris Lazaruk combined for 29 saves in the Dinos net.
