CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today their 2013-14 regular season schedule. Calgary starts off the '13-‘14 campaign with a pair of road games. The season opener is in Washington on Thursday, October 3rd followed by a game in Columbus the following night on Friday, October 4th. The Flames home opener is against divisional rival Vancouver Canucks on Sunday, October 6th.
Under the new NHL scheduling matrix, Calgary will be in a new division with Anaheim, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Jose and Vancouver. The Flames will play each divisional opponent five times, with the exception of Anaheim which will be four games. Calgary will play each Western Conference opponent (non-divisional) three times and will play all Eastern Conference opponents twice (once home and once away).
The Flames' renew their annual New Year's Eve home game as they host the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, December 31st. The Christmas schedule also includes home games against Phoenix (December 4th), Colorado (December 6th), Boston (December 10th), Carolina (December 12th), St.Louis (December 23rd), Edmonton (December 27th) and Vancouver (December 29th).
Calgary’s longest home stands this season are five games apiece, the first starts December 23rd – January 3rd when they host St.Louis, Edmonton, Vancouver, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. The second five game home stands runs January 22nd - February 1st as Phoenix, Nashville, Chicago, San Jose and Minnesota visit the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Calgary’s longest road trips are a trio of five game treks. The first five game trip starts October 16th – 24th with the Flames travelling to Anaheim, San Jose, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Dallas. The second five game trip is December 14th – 21st with stops in Buffalo, New York Rangers, Boston, Detroit and Pittsburgh. The final five game road trip runs March 30th – April 7th in Ottawa, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Florida and finishes in New Jersey.
The Eastern Conference Canadian teams will each play at the Scotiabank Saddledome once each with Montreal coming October 9th, Toronto here on October 30th and Ottawa on March 5th.
The Flames will travel to face the three Canadian teams in the Eastern Conference in Montreal (February 4th), in Ottawa (March 30th) and in Toronto (April 1st). For the first time since April 6, 1996 the Flames will travel to Winnipeg to face the Jets (November 18th).
The day-by-day breakdown is as follows: Monday (10), Tuesday (12), Wednesday (11), Thursday (12), Friday (16), Saturday (15) and Sunday (6). Other schedule notables include hosting the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks twice, November 27th and January 28th. Calgary plays back-to-back 12 times in addition to 16 home stints and 17 road trips.
The Calgary Flames will break for the Sochi Winter Olympics from February 8th – 27th.
The Flames finish with a road game against Vancouver on Sunday, April 13th which is the final day of the NHL regular season schedule.
