Flames trade captain Jarome Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins

Flames acquire Kenneth Agostino, Ben Hanowski and Pittsburgh's 2013 first round pick

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames Hockey Club have traded team captain Jarome Iginla in exchange for forwards Kenneth Agostino and Ben Hanowski and the Pittsburgh Penguins 2013 first round pick.

Jarome Iginla has served as the Flames captain since 2003 and played for the Flames for 16 seasons. He is the Flames all-time leader in goals (525), points (1095) and games played (1219). Iginla has led the Flames in scoring for 11 consecutive seasons which is the longest consecutive streak for any player in NHL history. He led the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004 and the three time First-team All-star has won the Mark Messier Leadership Award (2009), the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy (2002 & 2004), the Lester B. Pearson Award (2002), the Art Ross Trophy (2002) and the King Clancy Award (2004).

Agostino, a native of Flanders, New Jersey, is in his junior year at Yale University (ECAC) who are the No.4 seed at the 2013 NCAA West Regional taking place March 29th. He led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 33 games this season and was honorable mention for the All-Ivy team. He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round (140th overall) in the 2010 NHL Draft.

Hanowski, a native of Little Falls, Minnesota, just finished his senior season at St. Cloud State (WCHA). The Huskies team captain was second in goals with 16 along with 13 assists for 29 points in 34 games this season. Hanowski was an All-WCHA Academic award winner and a WCHA Scholar-Athlete. He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round (63rd overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.
