COLUMBUS, OH -- On Wednesday morning, Calgary Flames general manager Jay Feaster announced rookie forward Sven Baertschi has been placed on the injured reserve retroactively.
The winger took a tumble in practice last week, resulting in a hip flexor injury.
"He continues to be week-to-week," Feaster explained."Basically, while he's on IR-retroactive, what it means is that once he's cleared medically, he can come off IR.
"It gives us a roster spot and again, from the standpoint of once he's cleared medically, he's already served the seven days that you have to be on IR."
Defenceman Anton Babchuk, who suffered a should injury during the work stoppage, has been skating with team for the past couple of weeks and was cleared for contact on Monday. He is on the road with the team and is using practices to get himself back into game-shape.
"This Monday, before we left for Detroit, he skated his first contact practice," Feaster said. "He'll have another contact practice and I'd imagine by the end of the week the doctors will say that the shoulder is good to go and he'll be cleared."
