CALGARY, AB -- On Saturday night, the Calgary Flames and Scotiabank will host the battle between Team Alberta and the Toronto Furies at 7:45 PM at WinSport, bringing fans elements from an NHL game night entertainment package.
As of Friday afternoon, Team Alberta has dropped three games to the Furies in the six-game season series, being outscored 10-2 in the process. The two will meet again on Sunday at 12:00 PM at WinSport.
PLAYER TO WATCH: TEAM ALBERTA
Meaghan Mikkelson - Mikkelson leads the Team Alberta defensive corps in scoring with two goals and 11 points in 15 games this season and is a constant offensive threat. This should come as no surprise as the St. Albert, AB product began her career as a forward. She moved to the blueline at the beginning of the 2005-06 season when she was a member of the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
Mikkelson can be described as a "total package" player. She is an extremely strong skater, handles the puck very well and has excellent finishing skills. In addition to her offensive prowess, she is very solid in her own end of the rink.
PLAYER TO WATCH: TORONTO FURIES
Tessa Bonhomme - The Toronto captain has been a pillar of strength on the blueline for the Furies since joining the club last season. Like Mikkelson, Bonhomme brings a strong offensive element to the game. She has four points in nine games this season and in 24 games last year, Bonhomme potted four goals and notched 16 points.
Many remember Bonhomme's incredible performance in the gold medal game against the US in the 2010 Olympics. Her smart play, catching the Americans on the bad line change, led to Caroline Ouelette's game-winning goal.
