SYNOPSIS:

The Calgary Flames suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of the visiting Boston Bruins Tuesday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Milan Lucic, with two, including an empty-net tally, and Brad Marchand scored for the Bruins while Tim Thomas held the fort in the Boston net

The Flames, trailing 2-0, scored on a late power play when Curtis Glencross finished off a pretty passing play to beat Thomas.

However, Lucic iced the game with Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff on the bench in favour of the extra attacker.

Niklas Hagman, the Flames forward who cleared waivers earlier in the day, had an inspired game, registering five shots on net and providing lots of energy for Calgary.

THIRD PERIOD RECAP:

The Calgary Flames managed to kill off an penalty early in the period but the Bruins keep pressing and take a 2-0 lead when Brad Marchand scores on a rebound at 5:55 of the final frame.

Not that the Flames didn't have their chances. Perhaps the best in the third period was a David Moss tip that banked off the post and then off the back of Bruins goalie Tim Thomas and then just rolled past the far post.

Olli Jokinen then had a great chance in front off the cycle and Thomas stuck out his catcher to make a critical stop with under five minutes remaining in the game.

Despite being down, the Flames pressed hard in the third period.  Curtis Glencross scored on a pretty play on the power play with a little under three minutes remaining to break Thomas's shutout and give the Flames life in the final minutes.

Thomas, the unorthodox but effective goalie, was the difference. He finished by stopping 28 of the 29 shots he faced.

Miikka Kiprusoff also faced 29 shots.

SCORING PLAYS:
